LIBERTY TO INNOVATE — Janicki Bioenergy is made up of dreamers, innovators, and doers. If we like an idea, we try it. And then we modify a few things and try it again, and again—we are always searching for a better way. With the culture of a startup and capabilities of a big company, our size frees us from the burdens of red tape and bureaucracy, allowing us to enact our ideas swiftly. Mistakes are not feared; they’re learned from. We move fast, but with purpose.
OWN YOUR CAREER PATH — Our teams are small, highly talented and multi-disciplinary. We don’t believe in rigid roles that might pigeon-hole our team members and limit their abilities. We believe our employees excel when they are doing the things they want to be doing. We encourage individuals to speak up about what type of work and projects they are most drawn to, and we do our best to ensure that they are well-matched to their talents and interests.
ORG STRUCTURE — The organizational structure has few tiers, such that there aren’t 10 managers separating our engineers from our CEO. In fact, our CEO is an engineer himself and instead of making decisions from an ivory tower, it’s likely that he will sit in on your next design review. This creates a culture where company management and engineering are closely in-sync, rather than being plagued by an “us vs. them” mentality.
COLLABORATION — We believe in collaboration and sharing of knowledge. It’s an environment in which you can be honest about what you don’t know, and those that do know will explain it to you without condescension—because we get that on some other topic in the future, these roles might be reversed. It’s important to us that we enjoy the people we work with (we spend a lot of time together after all). We’re in this thing together. Individually we may not have all the answers, but together we build solutions.
DIVERSE LANDSCAPE — Janicki Bioenergy is located in Sedro-Woolley, Washington—approximately halfway between Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle. In the heart of the Skagit Valley, at the base of the North Cascades, we are surrounded by diverse natural beauty and still enjoy easy access to major cities. Our employees can live in a wide range of settings, from rural farm land in Skagit County to smaller cities like Mount Vernon, Anacortes, or Bellingham.
OUTDOOR RECREATION — No matter the season, it’s not uncommon to see outdoor recreational equipment atop the vehicles in our parking lot, prepped for a post-work excursion. We are fortunate to be in close proximity to so many world-class places that offer amazing backdrops for active people to do their thing. Consistently listed as one of the most underrated national parks in America, the North Cascades National Park is one such place. Its beautifully impressive sites and relatively low tourist traffic make it an ideal escape into nature. Because our facilities are located on the main highway that serves the park, our employees are just a short drive away from experiencing spectacular mountain terrain in just about any way they choose.
QUICK ACCESS TO WINTER SPORTS — Mount Baker Ski Area, which is also just a short drive away, is a premier destination for skiing and snowboarding. A number of professional snowboarders spend their winters in Bellingham due to its proximity to Mount Baker, which holds the United States record for most snowfall in a single season.
A KAYAKER’S MECCA — To the west, Skagit Valley is bordered by the Puget Sound and the uniquely gorgeous San Juan Islands, which comprise over 400 islands and rock formations in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. These islands offer opportunities for boating, fishing, and exploration. The beautiful setting makes the San Juans a top choice of Washington State’s wealthiest residents for construction of summer homes and retreats.
JUST CLOSE ENOUGH TO CITY LIFE — Seattle and Vancouver, B.C. are both easily accessible by car, allowing for weekend getaways into more urban settings. Though each offers its own unique experience, both are world-class cities with superb art, food, shopping, and culture.
